Thermal Flow Measurements at Gr/Re by Silicon Anemometry
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present the first characteristics of air flow measurements in the mixed convective region with strong buoyancy effects (Gr/Re 1), using a thermal silicon double-Wheatstonebridge vector sensor. The Alternating Direction Method is applied to eliminate additive drift influences. The upper limit on the mixed convective region is experimentally defined to be given by Gr/Re = [0:3–0:8]. Flow velocity measurements of down to 1 mm/s (Reynolds 0.3) are realized with an accuracy better than 98%.

Thermal Anemometry Grid Sensor
A novel thermal anemometry grid sensor was developed for the simultaneous measurement of cross-sectional temperature and axial velocity distribution in a fluid flow. The sensor consists of a set of platinum resistors arranged in a regular grid. Each platinum resistor allows the simultaneous measurement of fluid temperature via electrical resistance and flow velocity via constant voltage thermal...
متن کاملDesign and Characteristics of New Test Facility for Flat Plate Boundary Layer Research
Preliminary results for a new flat plate test facility are presented here in the form of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), flow visualisation, pressure measurements and thermal anemometry. The results from the CFD and flow visualisation show the effectiveness of the plate design, with the trailing edge flap anchoring the stagnation point on the working surface and reducing the extent of the l...
متن کاملDelft University of Technology LDA measurements of coherent flow structures and cross-flow across the gap of a compound channel with two half-rods
The enhancement of heat transfer from fuel rods to coolant of a Liquid Metal Fast Reactor (LMFR) decreases the fuel temperature and, thus, improves the safety margin of the reactor. One of the mechanisms that increases heat transfer consists of large coherent structures that can occur across the gap between adjacent rods. This work investigates the flow between two curved surfaces, representing...
متن کاملThermal Flow Micro Sensors'
A review is given on sensors fabricated by silicon micromachining technology using the thermal domain for the measurement of fluid flow. Attention is paid especially to performance and geometry of the sensors. Three basic types of thermal jlow sensors are discussed: anemometers, calorimetric flow sensors and time of flight flow sensors. Anemometers may comprise several heaters and temperature s...
متن کاملFlow Generated by an Aerated Rushton Impeller: Two-phase PIV Experiments and Numerical Simulations
Experiments Most publications of velocity measurements in stirred tanks concern measurements in single-phase flows. An excellent review of these studies was made by Ranade and Joshi (1990a). Literature concerning velocity measurements in aerated stirred tanks is scarcer however. An overview of literature is given in Table 1. Lu and Ju (1987) used constant temperature anemometry (CTA) in order t...
